Do You Fly Solo?

by David Chen on September 23, 2009

We think a lot about how we can better support individual investor needs and provide useful insights. Mark Clare at Valuecruncher (great service that let’s you toss your valuation spreadsheets aside) offers a market perspective and wrote an interesting piece that paints 4 potential scenarios for how the online financial industry as a whole plays out.

He calls the scenarios “We Live In Public,” “Super Commons,” “Rockstars,” and “Walled Garden” — each is characterized by investors’ relative propensity to act individually vs. collaboratively and their willingness to pay for financial information services.

As part of the financial information industry, we are helping shape the trend, but it’s ultimately up to you, the investor, to determine what scenario takes course — which environment would you be most comfortable in?
